Body-mapping and squad feedback go into New Zealand shirts

New Zealand’s international rugby teams will wear new-design shirts from adidas in forthcoming matches against England, Fiji, Argentina, Japan, Australia, Ireland, France, Italy, the US, Canada, Wales and Scotland.

Adidas said it had gone “back to the roots” of its 25-year partnership with New Zealand rugby to create the latest shirts for the All Blacks men’s team and Black Ferns women’s team.

The jerseys offer a traditional block-black base, adorned with silver detailing, including the sports brand’s traditional three stripes on, for the first time, both shoulders.

Collars are white, reviving an element in what adidas has said were “some of the most loved New Zealand rugby jerseys” of the past, including in 2011, when the men’s team won the Rugby World Cup.

Body-mapping of members of both squads and detailed feedback from players also helped adidas formulate the design, the company said.
