US farmers plant more new-season cotton than expected

15/07/2024

A recent report from the US Department of Agriculture said US farmers had planted cotton on 11.7 million acres of land for the current season.

The figure is higher by 1 million acres than projections the department put forward in March. It had reported that the expected crop for 2024 would be 13 million bales, but information resource Cotlook said it expected this number to be revised upwards.

US growers usually plant their cotton crop between March and June. Harvesting there usually takes place between August and December.
