Celanese introduces bio-based solution for midsoles
Chemicals group Celanese Corporation has introduced a partially biobased foam for athletic footwear applications that it claims could further brands’ sustainability ambitions.
White foamed biobased Hytrel TPC RS40F2 is well-suited to midsoles as it is lightweight, offers energy return performance with excellent rebound and resilience, said the group.
Peter Wing, Celanese marketing manager of consumer products, said: “This new biobased grade offers numerous benefits for athletic footwear brand owners and manufacturers that align not only with their sustainability ambitions, but also their aspirations for elevating shoe performance.”
Celanese is collaborating with Xingxun Enterprise to produce foamed polymer applications. “Celanese proprietary technology allows the bio-content of many of our ECO-B materials to be tailored, and we look forward to working with customers on their specific athletic footwear applications," added Mr Wing.
Earlier this year, the group launched a stretch fibre in collaboration with Under Armour that it billed as an alternative to elastane.
