European Week of Sport embraces EU-Olympic values
The European Commission launched the 2024 European Week of Sport on September 23. The EU has run this initiative every year since 2015, encouraging citizens to stay active.
According to the Commission, the Week of Sport is about inviting people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in events and activities that celebrate and active lifestyle, to the benefit of mental as well as physical health.
With the Olympic and Paralympic games both having taken place in Europe this summer, the Commission said it had highlighted common EU and Olympic values as the focus for the Week of Sport this year.
The common values it chose are inclusion, wellbeing and belonging.
“A variety of events will take place across Europe to ensure that there is something for everyone,” it said, “regardless of fitness level or background.”
