European yarn production restructuring for Indorama

10/10/2024

Fibres group Indorama has announced that it will transfer an important part of its polyester filament yarn production for the European textile industry from Germany to Italy.

The Thailand-based group acquired polyester production assets from Invista in 2018. Currently, Indorama Ventures Polymers Germany produces polyester resins and specialty polymers and has its headquarters in Hattersheim, near Mainz, and a manufacturing facility and research and development capabilities in Gersthofen, near Augsburg.

Now, though, the group has announced that it is to transfer its spinning, draw texturising and dyeing expertise to two sites in north-west Italy, Sandigliano and Saluzzo.

It said its strategy to transform its global asset network into “a focused footprint that can serve volatile markets”.

European customers value expertise and supply capabilities from within the region, the group’s chief operating officer, Vipin Kumar, and expect suppliers to be “highly cost competitive”.

The company’s twisting and air texturising processes will continue to be performed at a facility it runs in Bulgaria.
