Fashion Impact Fund invests in grassroots project in Nigeria
A grant from the Fashion Impact Fund has allowed a training centre in Nigeria to train 20 women in fashion design, styling, merchandising, and entrepreneurship.
With the funding, the Datina Design vocational training centre in Ibadan has run the course throughout October. Founded 15 years ago, Datina Design has a commitment to empowering women through fashion design and offers training in sewing, patternmaking, and textile selection to give women the confidence and expertise to design, produce and sell their own garments.
Founder, Atinuke Smith, says she has empowered more than 5,000 women in this way since launching Datina Design.
Non-profit organisation Pvblic Foundation, which runs the Fashion Impact Fund, said supporting women-led initiatives was an important part of its work. Managing director, Kerry Bannigan, said programmes like those Datina Design runs can “create a ripple effect, transforming lives at grassroots level”.
She added: “It's not just about fashion; it’s about building futures and shaping a more resilient and inclusive world for women everywhere.”
