Sports textile company leader confirmed among flood victims
One of the founders of sports clothing and equipment manufacturer Luanvi, Vicente Tarancón, has been confirmed as a victim of the disastrous flooding in the Valencia region this autumn.
Floods devastated many towns and villages after unusually heavy rainfall on October 29. The authorities in Spain have confirmed 214 fatalities with another 40 people still unaccounted for.
On November 10, local media confirmed that Vicente Tarancón was among the victims. He had been missing since the floods began. On October 29, Mr Tarancón drove to the town of Chiva, one of the parts of the region worst-hit by the floods, to attend a lunch with business contacts.
He co-founded Luanvi in the early 1970s and built the company into an important producer of sports apparel. Its specialism has long been making kit for team sports, especially football, basketball, handball and volleyball. It also makes clothing for running, tennis and padel.
On confirming the news on November 11, the company said that, under Vicente Tarancón’s leadership, Luanvi had become “a symbol of quality, commitment and love of sport”. It said Mr Tarancón had dedicated his life to promoting and developing sport in the Valencia region and across Spain.
