Dialogues on sustainable cotton production launch in Pakistan and Brazil
Cotton sustainability initiative Better Cotton has launched a new multistakeholder platform in Pakistan.
An inaugural meeting for members of the platform took place in Lahore on April 10, with 35 people taking part, representing the cotton industry, government bodies and academia. The purpose of this first meeting was to define mutual goals and expectations for the future.
Overall, the group’s aim is to “drive collective action towards a more sustainable cotton sector in the country”.
Director at Better Cotton Pakistan, Hina Fouzia, said: “Promoting more sustainable cotton production in Pakistan is imperative not only to the country’s economic development, but also to its ability to protect human and labour rights, achieve national sustainability targets, and ensure access to global markets for farmers and suppliers.”
In March, Better Cotton launched a similar multistakeholder dialogue in Brazil.
