Chinese textile firms already looking for new markets

The 2025 edition of the Indo Intertex exhibition took place in Jakarta in mid-April, attracting more than 500 exhibitors.

A report in the Wall Street Journal said around 400 of the exhibitors were from China and that this year’s event was their first time at the show.

It said the reason for such a high level of Chinese participation was that companies are now looking for alternative markets to take the place of customers in the US.

One of the business leaders it spoke to, Wang Chengpei of Suzhou Feimosi Textile Technology, confirmed that 30% of his orders, by value, were from the US until now.

He said these orders are now on hold, owing to the imposition of tariffs at, currently, 145%. Mr Wang told the WSJ that he had travelled to Jakarta “to see if we can open up new markets”.
