Cotton production estimates for 2024-2025 down

12/05/2025

Cotton industry information resource Cotlook has reduced its estimate for global cotton production for 2024-2025. Its calculation at the end of March was a total of just over 26 million tonnes of raw cotton worldwide.

It said its estimate for Turkey had gone up, but that this had been offset by lower figures for important cotton-producing countries in Africa.

At the same time, it also lowered its estimate of cotton consumption in 2024-2025, particularly in China, Bangladesh and Vietnam. Cotlook calculates that production will be greater than consumption by more than 1.3 million tonnes.

Meanwhile, for the following marketing year, 2025-2026, it estimates that demand will improve and that the addition to world cotton stocks by the end of that period will be 356,000 tonnes.
