Industry trade body Cotton Australia has announced the finalists for a research award that it will present later this year.

The winner of the 2025 Cotton Seed Distributors Researcher of the Year Award will be announced on August 6. It will be one of three scientists that Cotton Australia named on May 26.

These three finalists are Dr Katie Broughton from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Lou Gall from the Gwydir Valley Irrigator Association, and Dr Murray Sharman from the Queensland department of agriculture and fisheries.

On announcing the finalists, Cotton Australia general manager, Michael Murray, said the three finalists had demonstrated a combined commitment of close to 80 years in their efforts to improve the cotton industry in Australia.

He added: “Research is at the core of the current strength and global competitiveness of Australian cotton, so the efforts and importance of all involved in research cannot be overstated.”
