Special Wimbledon celebration for Babolat
Racket manufacturer Babolat has used its connections to Wimbledon as a platform for celebrating the company’s 150th anniversary.
Babolat developed the first strings for tennis rackets in 1875, which it has said means it, like Wimbledon, can trace its history “back to the very roots of the game”.
Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and will celebrate its own 150th anniversary in 2027.
Babolat became an official Wimbledon partner in 2013 and, in 2022, it became the tournament’s official racket service provider. In this last role, the manufacturer takes a team of technicians and special mobile stringing machines to London to be on hand to restring players’ rackets throughout the competition, which this year runs from June 30 to July 13.
To mark its special birthday, Babolat has also launched a commemorative book at this year’s Wimbledon. Called ‘The Perfect Match’, the book offers a history of the company, with foreword contributions from two tennis greats, Rafael Nadal and Bjorn Borg.
Company president, Eric Babolat, commented: “Babolat and Wimbledon are nearly the same age and still driven by the same spirit of youth, passion, and innovation. It’s always an honour for the brand to be a partner of this unique tournament that radiates tennis history.”
