Down recycling programme to expand to North America, Rab says
Outdoor brand Rab has revealed that 62% of the down it used across its product range in 2024 was recycled.
In its recently released sustainability report, the company said it had been operating a down recycling programme in the UK since 2021. In 2023, it expanded the programme to its service centre at Leusden in the Netherlands.
In the new report, it said it had collected just under 1,000 kilos of end-of-life down products in the programme so far.
It ships the end-of-life products to a specialist project partner, Minardi Piume, based near Ravenna in Italy. Here, the down is “meticulously recovered, cleaned, sorted and processed as certified under the Global Recycled Standard”, Rab said in the report.
From this, the outdoor has been able to reuse more than 250 kilos of down to date. It said it would aim to expand the down recycling programme to North America before the end of 2025.
