Densely woven Ventile is just right for new parka
High-performance textile manufacturer Ventile has continued its work with Bordeaux-based clothing brand Asphalte, whose latest product, a lightweight parka, is constructed from Ventile L19 Original fabric.
The fabric is 100% organic cotton with a weight of 240 grammes per square-metre and a hydrostatic head of 600 millimetres.
Asphalte said its choice of fabric reflected its commitment to product quality and to product consumption. The brand works with a pre-order model, offering European-made products. It says this lowers its environmental and societal impacts.
Key features of the new parka include high breathability, wind resistance and water repellency; it can withstand heavy rain, Asphalte said. This is because the densely woven fabric swells when wet for added protection, while staying breathable enough for comfort.
Other details include a fitted hood, flap-secured pockets, a tall collar and a zip-and-button closure featuring sustainable buttons.
Ventile brand director, Daniel Odermatt, said the jacket “perfectly showcases” how the fabric manufacturer’s high-performance cotton fabrics can be used to create outerwear that does not “compromise on function, comfort, or sustainability”.
He added: “It is exciting to see our L19 organic fabric being brought to life in such a modern and thoughtfully designed piece.”
For its part, Asphalte described L19 Original as “a real textile feat” because it offers protection from wind and rain without heavy chemical treatments, while staying “highly breathable”.
The brand said this was exactly what it needed for its lightweight parka: “an innovative alternative to synthetics that performs in real-life conditions and stays true to our environmental commitments.”
The two companies have been working together since 2022.
