Performance materials developer Freudenberg has completed a major expansion project at its manufacturing facility in Chennai, India.

It has added almost 2,000 square-metres of production space at the site and introduced new production lines specifically to meet the demands of the Indian apparel market.

Freudenberg said the expansion would significantly reduce lead times and enhance the availability of high-quality, locally produced interlinings in a fast-evolving apparel market.

It said Indian garment manufacturers were waiting up to eight weeks for delivery of imported cotton or polyester interlinings from China. Freudenberg said it will now be able to deliver products of the same quality in one or two weeks.

In addition, it said customers can expect a cost advantage compared to duty-paid imported goods.

“This expansion marks a milestone in our 27-year journey in India and in our role as a trusted partner in our customers’ growth,” said Freudenberg chief executive, Dr Andreas Raps. “When our customers gain speed and margin, we all succeed.”
