Busan meeting seems to have eased trade tensions for now
Trade and tariffs were the main points of discussion at a meeting between the presidents of China and the US that took place in Busan, South Korea on October 30.
Products from China that the US links to the drug fentanyl, exports from the US to China of soya beans and shipments the other way of rare-earth minerals created most of the headlines.
Of more direct consequence for the trade between the two of textiles, apparel and footwear, the US said it would cut tariffs on imports from China in general by 10%. However, this still leaves the rate at 47%.
For now, at least, most commentators have reacted by saying the Busan meeting has helped ease tensions.
