Agreement on recycled polyester for Decathlon in India
Sports group Decathlon is to work with Indian company Texfil to produce recycled polyester for use in Decathlon clothes.
Texfil is part of Bangalore-based group Filatex. It has developed an in-house chemical recycling process, based on glycolysis, that it says preserves the quality of polyester. It processes the polyester into chips, which it markets under the brand name Ecosis.
It is currently operating a pilot plant with a capacity of 800 kilos per day. It is setting up a commercial facility, which it says will have a capacity of 26,750 tonnes per year.
Decathlon has committed to asking manufacturing partners in India to carry out “structured trials” of Ecosis recycled polyester.
It will also work with Texfil to explore ways of separating out textiles for use in the production of Ecosis chips. Material will come from industrial and post-consumer textile waste
