Move into footwear for OMM
Outdoor brand OMM (Original Mountain Marathon) has launched its first footwear product. It has developed a new fell shoe, describing it as suitable for giving runners confidence “across real off-road terrain”.
OMM has said the shoe will work well on more than one surface, in all conditions and for all styles of running.
“It is built for the shifting mix of rock, grass, soft ground and technical features that define British off-road miles,” the brand said.
It has a Vibram sole unit with deep, variable lugs for traction across mixed terrain, from loose stone to wet, broken ground. OMM said it had worked closely with Vibram, explaining the particular demands of fell-running in the UK, with terrain that can be steep and wet at the same time, with deep grass and hidden rocks along the way.
As a result, the lugs are large, mostly 8 millimetres in length, but some extending to 11 millimetres. Dots on the edge of each lug increase traction by 25%, OMM haw said.
The sole creates what the brand has called a predictable, stable base underfoot, helping maintain control when the terrain becomes uneven.
There is also a lightweight, ripstop mesh upper, combined with an X-Lock lacing system to secure the foot while allowing natural movement.
OMM said it had spent three years developing the fell shoe.
