Most gym-goers are wearing the wrong footwear, adidas claims
Sports group adidas has launched a new version of its Dropset shoe for multi-discipline workouts.
This version, the Dropset 4, is its most versatile training shoe to date, the company said.
Adidas claimed that 70% of gym-goers wear incorrect footwear to exercise. This is one of the findings of research it commissioned in 2024, in which more than 5,000 people who go to a gym at least once a month shared their experiences.
In response, the Dropset 4 offers a higher level of stability and energy return than previous vesions and can give wearers “robust support across the entire spectrum of a functional workout”, adidas said.
Proprietary foam called Repetitor runs the full length of the new shoe to give consistent stability and energy return.
A component adidas calls Energyrods support the heel during heavy movements and aid forefoot propulsion during exercises such as box jumps or skipping.
A rubber combination that adidas developed with tyre company Continental gives a high level of traction and durability, which the companies say will help wearers during “loaded-movement” activities such as sled pushes and weighted lunges.
General manager for sportswear and training at adidas, Aimee Arana, said the Dropset 4 offered “an improved solution”. She added: “We know our community has embraced functional training as an important part of routines and needs a shoe that will support them from warm-up to cool-down.”
