More LightSpray factories on the way, On promises
Footwear brand On has explained that South Korea’s position as a global leader in robotics and automation made it “the strategic choice” for the world’s second LightSpray facility.
It has also argued that this development demonstrates that the technology and processes it developed in Switzerland for LightSpray can be replicated, while maintaining consistent quality standards.
It said it is planning further production growth in the coming years. It said its strategic goal is to achieve large-scale global production through LightSpray factories at locations close to key markets in the next few years. Specifically, its plan is to initiate production in the Americas and large-scale production across Europe.
Chief innovation officer, Scott Maguire, explained that the company is able to programme each robot in a precise way. In this way, each robot can execute “choreographed movements to craft each shoe’s unique look and feel”.
Co-founder of the company, Caspar Coppetti, said: “The opening of our second LightSpray factory is a monumental milestone for us in mastering this advanced manufacturing process.”
The first shoe upper to be sprayed at the Busan factory will be for the LightSpray Cloudmonster 3 Hyper running shoe. It will have ‘sprayed in Korea’ visible on the inside sole.
