Lower carbon footprint for new variant of BDO
Chemicals group BASF has said new variants of the butanediol (BDO) and its derivatives that it produces at its plant in Ludwigshafen will offer customers a lower carbon footprint.
BDO is a key ingredient of polytetrahydrofluoride, which is used extensively in the production of elastane fibres for use in swimwear, sportswear, underwear, stretch jeans and other garments.
BASF said it had achieved a reduced carbon footprint by using low-emission feedstocks and utilities at the Ludwigshafen site. It said the carbon footprint reduction would be at least 10%.
