ZDHC to cover circularity ‘more implicitly’
As the fashion industry progresses in its aims to be more circular, ZDHC has said material innovation and recycling technologies alone are not sufficient.
As such, it is expanding its scope to address the traceability of chemical information in recycled materials; the recovery of waste, water and energy within manufacturing processes to improve resource efficiency; and the recovery and reuse of chemicals in production.
As part of this next phase, ZDHC is working to and align the guidelines and frameworks within the Roadmap to Zero (RtZ) Programme, with the objective of embedding circularity considerations more implicitly. This includes strengthening linkages between existing tools and expanding them where needed, so that they can support compliance and performance, as well as circular outcomes.
Prasad Pant, ZDHC chief technical and education officer, said: “These areas extend the focus from managing chemical risk towards enabling conditions that support more circular use of resources.”
