New partner aims to help Cibutex drive ‘B2B’ textile recycling

A specialist in extended producer responsibility (EPR) programmes, Reverse Logistics Group, has become a member of Amsterdam-based, textile waste co-operative Cibutex.

Launched in 2021, Cibutex now has 60 members across Europe and specialises in “B2B textiles”, recovering material from companies, institutions and industrial laundries, rather than from consumers. Reverse Logistics Group, which is part of recycling and waste management group Reconomy, will bring expertise in regulatory frameworks and in operations to Cibutex.

The announcement comes at a time when, the companies said, B2B textiles represent “a substantial but poorly controlled material stream”. They explained that large volumes of textiles are placed on the market and removed from use each year, but that most of this material was “still flowing into downcycling”.

Recent research from Reconomy explores structural barriers facing B2B textile circularity. It has found that, while B2B textiles are often better suited to recycling than post-consumer textiles, circular solutions have yet to scale beyond pilot phases.

Reconomy divides its business into three divisions Recycle, Reuse and Comply. Reverse Logistics Group is part of the Comply ‘loop’, which works to help customers navigate complex environmental regulations.
