New Zealand wool reaches highest price in 15 years
Reports from New Zealand suggest that, in May auctions, wool reached highest value there since 2011.
Wool growers there have pointed to strong demand for the fibre in the face of price volatility and supply constraints in the synthetic fibres market.
In recent comments to media in New Zealand, the general manager of Christchurch-based wool supplier PGG Wrightson Wool, Rachel Shearer, said “global uncertainty” around synthetics was shifting the textile industry’s attention towards natural fibres.
She said there was increasing recognition for wool’s reliability, traceability and environmental credentials.
