Sports and outdoor the target markets for new Teijin textile
The fibres division of Japanese industrial group Teijin, Teijin Frontier, has announced the development of a polyester fibre-based textile that it claims can simultaneously provide high levels of heat retention without compromising on breathability.
It said the new product would work particularly well in thermal apparel for sports and outdoor activity.
Teijin Frontier will position it as a key material for sports and outdoor apparel for the autumn-winter 2027-2028 season.
“Demand is growing for thermal apparel that delivers heat-retention performance and enhanced mobility and comfort,” the company said.
It said the new product also offers “a novel appearance” thanks to a distinctive, three-dimensional texture with a light and airy feel.
High breathability is the result of a special construction that creates large, knitted stitches, forming gaps between the yarns. The construction combines a low-crimp yarn and a bulky, highly crimped textured yarn.
The Teijin Group has announced that Teijin Frontier is to merge with rival fibre producer Asahi Kasei Advance. Upon completion of the merger, Teijin Frontier will run as a joint venture between the Teijin and Asahi corporations, with TA Frontier as its new name. The merger is expected to close before the end of October 2026.
