Wool sector in Australia benefits from integrated approach

A presentation at the recent International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO) Congress in Dalang, China, focused on two traceability programmes for wool in Australia.

The head of sustainability and traceability at trading non-profit the Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX), Katyana Armen, described the Australian Wool Sustainability Scheme (AWSS) and the Australian Wool Traceability Hub (AWTH) as complementary initiatives.

She said they provide the foundation for “credible certification, trusted traceability and secure data exchange across the wool supply chain”.

Ms Armen argued that Australia’s integrated approach to wool certification and traceability was meeting growing global demand for “trusted sustainability credentials and greater product transparency”.

She said these systems, which were both introduced two years ago, have been developed through collaboration across wool-sector organisations. “What makes Australia’s approach so effective is that it is built through industry-wide collaboration,” she concluded.
