Tariff reaction from Swiss Textiles
Industry body Swiss Textiles has expressed dismay at additional tariffs its member companies will now face if they export to the US.
At the end of July, the US imposed tariffs of 12.5% on a number of trading-partner countries, including Switzerland.
The US government said it was taking this measure against countries that it said could have links to forced labour. Switzerland ministry for the economy immediately rejected this suggestion.
Swiss Textiles, which represents around 200 textile and clothing manufacturing companies in Switzerland, said the additional tariffs were unfair and would hand an advantage to competitors in the European Union, for whom tariffs will remain at the previous levels of 10%.
It said international trade was pivotal for the Swiss textile sector.
