Materials developer to move footwear foam production to Asia

20/08/2026

Trade union organisation GMB has issued a statement to express concern about cellular materials specialist Zotefoams moving production from the UK to Vietnam.

The company has been making materials in Croydon, near London, since the 1920s. It specialised in expanded rubber materials before moving to polymer-based foam production in the 1960s.

It was part of petroleum group BP from the 1970s until 1992.

Sports brands including Nike began using Zotefoams materials in products such as football boots 15 years ago.

It is for this footwear side of the business that production will move to Vietnam. The company will continue to make foam for packaging and other applications in the UK.
