On August 2, Guangdong Provincial Industrial & Commerce Bureau discovered over 30,000 pairs of counterfeit Nike worth an estimated 20 million yuan ($2.5 million). This is believed to be the largest seizure of counterfeit foreign brand shoes ever made in Guangdong.

An official said that most of the footwear was destined for export to Europe with unit price of around $12.30 per pair. The shoes will now be destroyed and those involved will be sentenced in court in Guangdong.

In early July, 10,000 pairs of counterfeit Nike shoes were also discovered in Guangdong.
