Chinese garments to be released

05/09/2005

After meeting in Beijing on September 5, Chinese and European Union leaders have agreed that millions of imported Chinese garments, which have been blocked at European ports due to quotas imposed by the EU, will be released.

The agreement was said to have been reached during a meeting between Chinese Commerce Minister Bo Xilai and European Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson.

Meanwhile, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, European Commission President Manuel Barroso, and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana for the annual China-European Union summit at which Mr

Blair urged Europeans to embrace China as a trading partner rather than viewing the country as a threat.
