Official reports progress in US-China textile talks

David Spooner, chief textile negotiator for the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR), has said that US and Chinese negotiators made some progress at their third round of talks on a comprehensive textile agreement, but a number of issues still remain unsolved.

The United States is seeking a long-term solution that "will permit the orderly development of textile and apparel trade," Spooner said in a statement. "But the United States will have no hesitation in walking away from a bad deal."

Spooner said US and Chinese representatives have not determined the location or start date for the next round of textile talks but will meet again in October.
