Eastman announces record sales

31/10/2005

Manufacturer of chemicals, fibres and plastics Eastman Chemical Company has announced record sales revenue of $1.82 billion for the third quarter 2005, a 10% increase over third quarter 2004 and a company record. The increase in sales revenue was attributed to higher selling prices throughout the company and increased sales volume from continuing product lines.

In its Coatings, Adhesives, Specialty Polymers and Inks External division, sales revenue decreased by 7% as a result of the restructured, divested and consolidated product lines in third quarter 2004. Sales revenue from continuing product lines increased by 17% as a result of higher selling prices for cyclical commodity product lines.

The Performance Chemicals and Intermediates segment’s external sales revenue increased by 16%. Specialty Plastics reported an 8% increase in external sales as higher selling prices more than offset lower sales volume. The polymers division’s external sales revenue increased by 19%. Fibres reported a 24% increase as a result of higher selling prices and increased sales volume.

Eastman manufactures chemicals, fibres and plastics worldwide. It provides differentiated coatings, adhesives and specialty plastics products; PET polymers for packaging; and is a major supplier of cellulose acetate fibres.
