REACH to be discussed at EU Plenary session

11/11/2005

REACH will dominate the agenda at the November Strasbourg session of MEPs, to be held November 14-17. The REACH package on chemicals regulation is provisionally scheduled to be held on the afternoon of November 15 with the vote set to be held on November 17.

The plenary session’s vote will mark the end of the first reading”. It will then be for member states, meeting within the Council, to come to a decision. The UK, which currently holds the Council Presidency, hopes to obtain a political agreement during the meeting of the Competitiveness Council on November 28. If no consensus is found, a second reading will take place, which could involve nearly a year’s additional work.
