Lenzing Group sales increase, but fibres continue to decline

25/11/2005

Lenzing Group sales for the first nine months of 2005 rose by 9.4% to 697.6 million compared with 637.5 million in the comparable period of 2004. This was affected by an increase in quantity and by the full consolidation of the Tencel group for the whole reporting period despite a weak market and declining fibre prices.

The company’s global fibre business decline continued in the third quarter. The company stated that the unfavourable price situation affected its Textile Fibres as well as Nonwoven Fibres units. This year’s prices reached an annual low in the third quarter and the company was faced with a steep rise in energy and raw material costs. Primary energy prices rose by about 15% in the first three quarters, compared with last year.
