North Face athlete aims to circumnavigate Sri Lanka

Two UK explorers are set to leave the UK on December 1, aiming to paddle around the island of Sri Lanka in glass fibre sea kayaks. If successful, Fiona Whitehead will become the world’s first woman to achieve this record.

Fiona, 35, one of The North Face’s team of extreme athletes, recently became the first woman (and only the second person) to circumnavigate Great Britain and Ireland. She will be accompanied and filmed throughout by Matt Milloy.

The pair expect to face many dangers while attempting to paddle the 850 mile circumnavigation including crashing surf, snake infested jungle and land-mined beaches.

They have been granted six-week visas and anticipate having to paddle 10 hours a day for 30 days, leaving them two spare weeks in case of inclement weather.
