USA, Peru conclude FTA

The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) has announced that The United States and Peru have concluded work on a bilateral free-trade agreement (FTA).
According to the statement the agreement "will eliminate tariffs and other barriers to goods and services" and thus expand trade between theUnited States and Peru .
A spokesperson added, "We weren't necessarily anticipating" being able to close a free-trade agreement with Peru "this quickly," the official said, but "negotiations became very intense last night" when Peruvian negotiators made it clear that they wanted to move ahead, so "we decided it would be a good idea for both sides to lock in a deal."
The official described the pact as "a very strong agreement" for both countries. "There's a very strong agricultural benefits package" that "covers a wide array of products," offeringUS exporters duty-free access to the Peruvian market "immediately, with other tariffs phased out over 18 years," the official said.
In addition, the agreement contains "a very strong textiles/apparel package," the official said.
