Cutter & Buck’s sales fall

13/12/2005

Sportswear brand Cutter & Buck Inc. has announced a fall in sales for its second quarter ended October 31, 2005. Sales declined 5.3% year-over-year, which were driven by decreases in the company’s corporate and golf business units. The decline was partially offset by sales increases in its specialty retail and consumer direct business units.

Golf sales were down 26.9% for the quarter compared with the prior year. A portion of the decrease was attributed to the Ryder Cup tournament held last year, which had boosted the previous year’s results. Excluding the Ryder Cup tournament, golf sales were down approximately 21%.

Cutter & Buck designs and markets upscale sportswear under the Cutter & Buck brand. The company sells its products primarily to golf and specialty retailers, corporations and international distributors and licensees. It also sells directly to end consumers through catalogue and internet channels.
