Kuraray develops eco-friendly artificial leather

19/12/2005

Tokyo-based Kuraray has announced that it has developed Tirrenina, a new type of artificial leather.
Produced using the company's proprietary manufacturing process, the new product is made of microfibre to give texture and appearance which it claims is comparable to natural leather, while preserving the functionality of artificial leather.

In order to reduce harmful emissions, the company has also refrained from using any organic solvent in the fibre.

The company anticipates a variety of applications for the product, ranging from car seats and interior textiles to sportswear, bags as well as IT product materials.

Kuraray plans to begin marketing Tirrenina in June 2006.
