Bayer appoints new member of its management board

The supervisory board of Bayer AG has appointed Wolfgang Plischke to the company’s management board effective March 1, 2006. He is currently a member of the Bayer HealthCare Executive Committee and head of the Pharmaceuticals Division. Dr. Plischke will succeed Udo Oels, who will start his pre-retirement leave following the Annual Stockholders’ Meeting on April 28, 2006. Dr. Oels has been a member of the management board for 10 years and is responsible for Innovation, Technology and Environment and represents the Asia/Pacific region.

The management board has appointed Gunnar Riemann to succeed Dr. Plischke as head of the Pharmaceuticals Division. Dr. Riemann currently heads the Animal Health Division. His successor there, also effective March 1, 2006, will be Peter Nicklin, who is at present responsible for Business Development at Bayer HealthCare.
