According to the Guangdong Leather Industry Association, construction has begun on a footwear accessory production base in Huidong. The centre is expected to cover 1.33 million square metres and annual production is expected to Yuan 5 billion ($622 million) by the end of 2010.

Huidong is key shoe production base in Guangdong with over 3,000 shoe-manufacturers based in the area. In 2004 the region produced footwear worth in excess of Yuan 6.5 billion ($810 million), however, it also purchased footwear accessories worth Yuan 4 billion ($ 500 million) from other areas.

According to an official, It takes a long time to receive accessories purchased from other areas which has an impact on the efficiency of production.”
