Bayer receives vocational training prize

The German Minister for Labour and Social Affairs, Franz Müntefering, has awarded Bayer the "Shaping Employment - Companies Demonstrate Responsibility Award" in the category "Prospects for Young People" in recognition of its commitment to vocational training. The jury, comprising high-ranking representatives of politics, labour unions, and business and academia, singled out Bayer for the award because of its special training program for less able youngsters. This programme prepares socially and educationally disadvantaged young people for vocational training courses. 161 companies from all sectors were considered for the award.

"We are delighted with this accolade for our training achievements. Our initiatives specifically include efforts to create perspectives for less well-qualified school-leavers," commented Dr Richard Pott, member of Bayer’s board of management responsible for Strategy and Human Resources and Labour Director of Bayer AG.

Bayer has been running the programme for young people who do not have the qualifications needed to secure a place on a vocational training course for the past 18 years. The one-year programme combines instruction to improve basic educational skills with elements of practical and theoretical vocational training, including training in social skills such as team work, communication and self-discipline. During the training period participants receive the same remuneration as regular trainees.
