Finnish manufacturer of diving and outdoor computers Suunto celebrated its 70th anniversary on February 4. The company was founded in 1936 by surveyor and active orienteer Tuomas Vohlonen and its first product, the Suunto M-311 field compass, remains in production almost unchanged as the Suunto M-801. Over the years, Suunto has gone from developing field compasses to developing hi-tech wristop computers that are used in fitness training, diving, alpine skiing, hiking, sailing and golf.

In 1999, the company was taken over by Amer Sports. Suunto’s headquarters are in Vantaa and the company employs over 500 staff worldwide, selling products in over 70 countries.
