Puma launches trainers made of fish skin

22/02/2006

German sports apparel brand Puma has developed a range of trainers made of Patagonia carpio fish skin. It is the brand’s second range of trainers made of fish skin.

Carpio fish inhabit Patagonian and Pampean rivers that flow out into the South Atlantic. One of the characteristics of carpio fish skins is their smoothness similar to that of suede and it has a tridimensional aspect which imparts an exotic character with a texture that is totally different from that of other fish skins.

Puma's new range is the result of a long development process jointly carried out by Puma and Pel Patagonia Leather S.A., a company that specialises in the production and trade of exotic skins.

Puma assures those concerned with the environment that use of such skins, which up till now were disposed of as waste, does not affect environmental balance as they are obtained from controlled fishing for meat destined for human consumption. On the other hand, manufacturing is careful and totally done by hand and carried out by a group of selected, experienced shoemakers. Production is in short runs and each edition is limited and exclusive.
