BASF to build new specialty amines plant in USA

06/03/2006

BASF is building an alkylethanolamine (AEOA) plant at its US Verbund site in Geismar, Louisiana. The new plant, scheduled to come on line in 2007, complements existing amine production facilities at Geismar. The new plant will increase the company’s worldwide production capacities for these intermediates by about 40%. BASF also operates AEOA plants at its Verbund site in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

This line of chemical intermediates is utilised in manufacturing pharmaceuticals and cosmetics as well as cleaning and crop protection agents. Intermediates are additionally employed in producing various plastics and coating resins. Amines are also part of process chemical formulations applied, for instance, in water treatment as well as paper, textile and leather manufacturing.
