Vietnam’s garment and footwear exports increase over 45%

09/03/2006

Vietnam’s garment export turnover reached nearly $867 million in the first two months of 2006, a year-on-year increase of 45.5%, according to the Ministry of Industry.

Meanwhile, footwear exports reached $581 million, a 30.8% increase over the same period last year. However, the Ministry is forecasting that the footwear sector will face difficulties due to competition and the European Commission’s ongoing anti-dumping lawsuit. However, several larger companies still have future orders which have been guaranteed through their foreign parent firms.
