14/04/2006

Speaking at the two-day conference  'Comptex-2006,' Indian Textile Commissioner J. Singh said that Information Technology (IT) would play a key role in making India’s textile sector globally competitive, as the Indian industry has been illustrating a bullish trend for the last two years.

According to Mr Singh, the 'sunset' textile industry has now become a 'sunrise' industry and, with large-scale investments, the industry could achieve its target of $85 billion worth of textile trade in 2010.

In terms of IT, the textile ministry has offered assistance in adopting the necessary technology.
