Casual and athletic wear specialist Delta Apparel, Inc. has posted improved financial results for its fiscal third quarter ended April 1. The company's results for the  quarter and year-to-date periods include the operations of Junkfood Clothing Company since its acquisition by the company on August 22, 2005.

For the third quarter of fiscal 2006, net sales rose 19% to a record $69.4 million compared with $58.3 million in the prior year quarter. Net income was $2.7 million in the fiscal third quarter of 2006 compared with the prior year's level of $5.4 million.

For the fourth fiscal quarter ending July 1, 2006, the company expects sales to fall between $81 to $88 million, compared with prior year sales of $66.3 million.
