18/05/2006

Manufacturer of zips and other fastening products YKK has singed an agreement with Pakistan’s Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) to set up a production facility in the Karachi Export Processing Zone Phase-II.

YKK director Kosuke Miimi and EPZA chairperson Rukhsana Saleem signed a formal deal for handing over possession and construction of the factory building. The company plans to invest $15 million in the facility to produce zips and other fastening. It is already running similar projects in other  countries including Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, with a turnover of $5 billion.

YKK zip production will help to meet local demand from apparel manufacturers and exporters who supply leather and textile garments for the export market.

The unit is expected to start production in 2007.
