Future of Ramatex in Namibia remains uncertain

The Namibian Prime Minister's Office and Ramatex Textile Factory have issued a joint statement, refuting recent media reports that the Malaysian textile company plans to close its facility in Namibia with the loss of up to 6,000 jobs.

Both parties said that they were "currently engaged in serious discussions on the project" with a view to finding an "amicable solution" and "settlement" but, however, Ramatex gave no firm assurances of the company’s future presence in the country.

The government claimed that ‘false’ reports of Ramatex's closure have led to suppliers threatening to discontinue services to the factory or demanding advance payment.
