EU calls off reinstating FSC tariff sanctions

26/05/2006

According to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers’ Association (SGMA), the European Union has called off plans to reinstate 14% retaliatory duties on several categories of US-manufactured apparel, footwear, and other products in connection with the WTO ruling against the US FSC-ETI export tax programme.

Scheduled by the EU to take effect on May 16, the penalty duties were avoided when the US Congress passed tax reconciliation legislation on May 11, repealing various provisions contained in the original FSC-repeal legislation which was passed in October 2004.
